During recent years, there has been increasing interest among the database community in research problems of statistical databases. There have been two recent workshops on statistical database management [1,2,3] that have explored the issues in statistical databases.
The purpose of this panel is to address the general questions about statistical databases, such as what statistical databases are, what type of architecture and features they should have, and what type of special data types and operators they should provide.
Some specific issues which may be discussed include the following:
