The final camera-ready VLDB 2006 submissions should be prepared using the instructions shown in this page.

  1. Your paper should not have page numbers, since they will be inserted by the editor.
  2. The page limit for research papers and industrial papers is 12 pages. The page limit for demonstration papers is 4 pages.
  3. All papers should include the following copyright block at the lower left of the first page of your submission:

ˇ°Permission to copy without fee all or part of this material is granted provided that the copies are not made or distributed for direct commercial advantage, the VLDB copyright notice and the title of the publication and its date appear, and notice is given that copying is by permission of the Very Large Data Base Endowment. To copy otherwise, or to republish, to post on servers or to redistribute to lists, requires a fee and/or special permission from the publisher, ACM.
    VLDB ˇ®06 , September 12-15, 2006, Seoul, Korea.
Copyright 2006 VLDB Endowment, ACM 1-59593-385-9/06/09ˇ±

Please note that for government papers, a different copyright block is needed. For the necessary changes, please see:
    http://www.acm.org/sig_volunteer_info/conference_manual/6-5PROC.HTM.

  4. We will accept only PDF files, formatted for 8.5" x 11" paper, and no more than 5MB in file size. Because papers are primarily distributed and viewed online these days, authors are encouraged to include color in their final papers whenever it can be used to improve the presentation: in graphs, figures, and so forth. However, printed proceedings are still common as well and it is the absolute responsibility of authors to ensure that their papers are legible in black and white colors as the hard copy proceedings will still be in black and white. It is essential that the final submissions of the papers print without difficulty on a variety of printers using Adobe Acrobat Reader. Therefore, authors must be sure that any special fonts are included, etc.

Template Files:

We have prepared template files which include this text automatically. Please note that although the ACM templates include headings for " Categories and Subject Descriptors ", " General Terms ", and " Keywords " these are not used by VLDB and can be omitted from your submitted paper.

LaTeX

**When using LaTeX, please make sure that the LaTeX .tex files used to not contain directives ( "\conferenceinfo" , "\CopyrightYear ",or "\crdata" ) to overwrite the defaults in the style file.

Microsoft Word

Fonts:

Authors should substitute Adobe Postscript Type 1 fonts for any bitmap fonts (e.g., Postscript Type 3 bitmapped fonts, PCL fonts, MacOS bitmap fonts, Windows vector (outline) fonts). Bitmapped fonts display poorly on screen in PDF files and sometimes cause printing problems.

LaTEX FILES: PDFs generated from LaTEX files generally do not display well on screen because the fonts that are generated from LaTEX for the PDFs are bitmap images.

Whenever possible, please substitute Type 1 Postscript fonts for Type 3 fonts in files, then generate PS or PDF. The following document contains detailed information on substituting Adobe Type 1 fonts into some LaTEX papers to correct this problem, as well as various other problems regarding preparation of your PDF documents:
http://acm.org/sigs/pubs/proceed/sigfaq.htm
.

In addition, the American Mathematical Society (AMS) has made a Type 1 version of the Computer Modern outline font freely available for download at its Web site:
http://www.ams.org/tex/type1-fonts.html.
