September 13, 2006: Soliciting comments on Land of Morning Calms


 


Soliciting comments on the book entitled ¡°Land of Morning Calm¡±. All the registrants received a complimentary book entitled ¡°Land of Morning Calm¡± in the conference bag. If you have any interesting comments on the book or learned any new facts on Korea from the book, please send your comments to Prof. Hwan-Seung Yong at hsyong@ewha.ac.kr by the midnight of Thursday (September 14, 2006). The organizing committee will select several interesting comments and will list them in the post-conference newsletters.

September 12, 2006: Refund for student banquet tickets


 


All the student registrants who purchased banquet tickets can get a refund at the Conference Office located in Room 317A. The refund must be requested by 5:30PM, Thursday, September 14. No refund will be given after that date.



September 11, 2006: Internet Café and Using the Network in the VLDB 2006


 


1. Internet Cafe
The Internet Caf e is located in Room 321A . There are ten desktop computers for checking emails. There are six additional LAN lines available for connecting to notebooks. There will be a few student helpers in the room to help any technical problems.

2.  Using LAN at the Internet Cafe
The LAN cables in Room 321A have a tab on the LAN cable showing the IP address to be used with the LAN. Go to Control/Network Connection/LAN/TCP-IP/Properties and then enter the IP address, Gateway, and DNS.

3.  Using the VLDB 2006 wireless network

(a) Accessing the VLDB 2006 wireless network
Access the VLDB 2006 wireless network with the SSID of ¡°coex-hanaro¡±. This is not an open network, but the network to be used in COEX building. You can use this network at 54Mbps (support IEEE 802.11/bg). You can use the wireless network in any hall way, but not in the session rooms.

(b) Registering at the wireless network
When you first open a browser, you are asked to enter the ID and password for the network. The ID is ¡°vldb¡± (without quotes and all in lower case letters), and the password is ¡°2006¡±.

The files are password protected, and the password will be announced at the conference. August 24, 2006: The Riviera Hotel has been booked up


 


Rooms that are eligible for the special conference rate at Hotel Riviera, the main conference hotel, have all been booked up. Please contact the Local Arrangement Chair Prof. Yong-Chul Oh at ¡°oh@kpu.ac.kr¡± for a recommendation for an alternative hotel with a rate comparable to that of Hotel Riviera.

April 29, 2006: Third Organizing Committee's Domestic Meeting


 


General Chair Kyu-Young Whang organized the third domestic meeting at COEX on Saturday, April, 29, 2006 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm. Most organizing committee members in Korea participated in the meeting.



March 21, 2006: The due date for panel proposals has been extended to March 31st, 2006.

 


The organizing committee decided to extend the due date of the panel proposals to March 31, 2006. Please send your panel proposals for VLDB 2006 to Panel Program Co-Chair Michael Carey (mcarey at bea com).


March 7, 2006: The online submission systems for Industry and Demonstration tracks are now open.

 


The online paper submission systems for the "Industrial, Applications, and Experience" track and the Demonstration track are now open. Click the "Manuscript Submission" button on the menu. Please remember that both submission must be submitted by March 16th, 2006 (5:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time). You can use either the traditional VLDB format or the ACM SIG format. The submissions for "Industrial, Applications, and Experience" track must be up to 12 pages. The submissions for Demonstration track must be up to 4 pages.


March 6, 2006: Both VLDB format and the ACM SIG Format are allowed.

 


The VLDB endowment and the PC chairs decided to accept papers both in the traditional VLDB format or the ACM SIG format. Note that the page length restrictions apply to both formats. The page limit for research papers: 12 pages. The ACM SIG format is described in detail on the website, http://www.acm.org/sigs/pubs/proceed/template.html, where there are both LaTeX and Word templates. Both Strict Adherence to SIGS style and Tighter Alternate style are allowed." The traditional VLDB format can be obtained in this web page by clicking "Manuscript Preparation" button. The final accepted papers must be in the ACM SIG format.
