Abstract

PREDATOR (Princeton Experiments in Database Organization) is a database prototype (testbed) we designed for researching performance issues in crash recovery. Our approach is empirical; by building a fairly realistic database environment and implementing different recovery techniques, we test when (and by 'how much') a particular recovery algorithm is preferred. The testbed was used to evaluate and compare a redo-undo log technique against a shadow page approach.
