Currency Crowd at Yongsan
The Korean currency is the won (indicated as £Ü). Coin denominations are 10, 50, 100 and 500. Bank notes are 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000. Foreign bank notes and traveler's checks can be converted into Korean won at most banks, hotels and airports. International credit cards such as Visa, Master, American Express, Diners Club and JCB are widely accepted at major hotels, department stores and restaurants in larger cities. Customs & Quarantine

There are prohibited and restricted goods for visitors to carry with. The customs inspection is done by high-tech equipments. All live animals, plants, animal products and plant products brought into Korea must be accompanied by valid certificates issued by the exporting country's government. When importing these items, a formal declaration should be made to the quarantine officer at the port of entry.

Incheon Int'l Airport is 52km west of downtown Seoul . There are several public transportations from the airport to Seoul .

Electricity

Korea uses basically 220 volt systems. 110 volt wiring is available in some places but many new hotels have only 220 volts current. Please check the voltage of the power supply before using equipment.

Internet

Internet service is offered in public places such as airports, train stations and bus terminals in Korea . Internet cafes are also easy to find throughout the country.

Business Hours

Government offices are open 09:00-18:00 on Monday through Friday. Most private businesses open at 8:30 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. but some open until late evening. Bank hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. Foreign diplomatic missions in Seoul are usually open from 9 a.m.to 5 p.m. on weekdays and are closed on Saturday, Sunday and their respective national holidays.

Language

Koreans use their own language. Street signs are basically written in Korean but some important ones are subscribed with  English.

Tipping
Tipping is not a custom in Korea. A 10% service charge is added to the bill at all tourist's hotels and tipping is not expected. It is not necessary to tip taxi drivers unless they assist you with luggage or provide an extra service.
